AIQI Member Spotlight - TIC Council
About TIC Council
TIC Council is the international trade association representing the independent Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry, with over 100 members operating in 160 countries. Our mission is to uphold safety, security, and reliability across industries by ensuring products and systems comply with regulations and ethical standards.
As AI becomes more integrated into daily life, the TIC industry plays a crucial role in verifying that these technologies are not only innovative but also safe, fair, and accountable.
TIC Council’s Role in AI Assurance
AI introduces new risks, from bias and cybersecurity threats to regulatory uncertainty. The TIC industry provides independent verification that AI systems function as intended, assessing their robustness, security, and transparency. Our members conduct rigorous testing, audit cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and certify compliance with industry best practices.
For example, some TIC Council members are accredited to certify organisations under ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for AI management systems. Certification supports businesses in implementing responsible AI practices, managing risks, and demonstrating compliance with global standards.
Another key function of the TIC industry is conducting conformity assessments to help organisations meet AI legislation worldwide, including requirements under the EU AI Act for high-risk AI systems.
AI assurance requires collaboration of the whole Quality Infrastructure (QI) ecosystem, and the TIC industry is actively shaping global frameworks through AIQI. By working closely with QI partners and, later, engaging the broader AI supply chain, our members contribute their expertise in risk assessment and certification, helping to develop best practices and harmonised regulations.
As AI evolves, continuous oversight will be essential to maintaining public trust and safety. The challenge is to keep pace with rapid advancements while ensuring regulatory frameworks remain effective. The TIC industry is committed to leading the way by developing robust assurance mechanisms that balance innovation with accountability.
