AIQI Publishes Report on AI Adoption Across Conformity Assessment Bodies

The AIQI Consortium has published a new summary report examining the current use of artificial intelligence (AI) within Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), offering a snapshot of AI adoption across the Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) sector.

The report is based on insights gathered from over 1,000 survey responses collected between December 2025 and February 2026. It provides a structured overview of how AI is being applied within CABs, the types of technologies in use, and the areas where organisations are beginning to explore its potential.

The findings indicate that while adoption is increasing, the sector remains at an early stage of maturity. Just over one-third of respondents reported current use of AI, with a further proportion actively developing AI-related initiatives. However, the majority of organisations have yet to begin implementation, highlighting a significant gap between interest and operational deployment .

Where AI is being used, the report shows a clear concentration in supporting activities such as communications, training, and administrative functions. Use within core conformity assessment processes is more limited, reflecting both the complexity of these activities and the importance of professional judgement. The findings suggest that greater clarity may be needed around how AI can be appropriately and confidently integrated into these critical functions .

The report also identifies a diverse range of AI technologies in use, with no single approach dominating. This dispersion may reflect both the exploratory nature of current adoption and varying levels of understanding of AI technologies across the sector.

Looking ahead, the report highlights several areas where further development will be important to support wider and more effective adoption. These include the need for clearer guidance on acceptable uses of AI within conformity assessment, the development of practical use cases, improved alignment of standards and accreditation expectations, and increased investment in skills and training.

The AIQI Consortium intends for this report to serve as a foundation for further work, including deeper analysis and the development of case studies to support organisations as they navigate the adoption of AI.
